Hands-on programs that foster curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning

The staff and Board of STEAM PEI extends condolences to the Jadis family on the passing of our Founder and CEO, Amber Jadis. Amber was a visionary and transformational leader, and known across PEI as a champion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. In 2014, she launched Bricks 4 Kidz and, with early support from Maritime Electric, the Architect Association of PEI and Rotary, travelled across PEI providing students with hand-on, interactive STEM activities in schools and in community halls. In 2018, due to growing interest from parents and teachers, she founded STEAM PEI in her home community of Abegweit Mi’kmaw Nation. Amber’s vision was to inspire young Islanders to explore STEM fields with the arts by fostering their curiosity and creativity. Cancer was not going to get in the way.

Today, due to Amber’s drive and determination, the organization delivers more than 85
programs in Island communities including after-school classes, in-school workshops, preschool classes, teacher professional development workshops, March break and summer camps. In 2023, about 10,000 students (30%) and 110 teachers from preschool to grade 12 participated in a STEAM PEI program. Amber also wanted equity, diversity and inclusion to be front and centre in everything the organization did, building a diverse teaching team of role models from nine countries with the capability of delivering programs in five different languages.

Along the way, Amber fostered partnerships with more than 40 science, government and
community organizations in PEI and across Canada and she developed lasting friendships with many, many educators in the Department of Education, in PEI’s schools, at the University of Prince Edward Island and Holland College and beyond. Tributes to Amber have been pouring in from across PEI and Canada, folks sharing their wonderful memories and interactions, many saying how Amber was an inspiration.

STEAM PEI is committed to continuing Amber’s vision and to honour her memory. We offer our condolences to Amber’s husband Jacob, their children Ellen and Clark, her parents Roberta and Kent and the entire family.
