Position Overview
YOU:
Have a passion for science, technology, engineering, Arts and/or math? Love the opportunity to inspire young minds by sharing your passion through in-school and after-school programs? Think Ms. Frizzle on Magic School Bus, Neil deGrasse Tyson, or Bill Nye Science Guy. Share your Awesomeness with us!

THE OPPORTUNITY:
STEAM PEI is looking for a Educational Facilitator to facilitate our new after school program in Summerside and work with our team to develop in-school experiences, camps, workshops, classes and events while also facilitating them across PEI in English. Join the STEAM Team and feel like a rock star when you walk into a classroom, arms loaded with fun robotics or science experiments.

There are regularly late afternoons/evenings and occasionally some weekend hours, but most of the work that needs to be done happens during, or just after school hours. We believe in doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done, so there is plenty of flexibility to maintain the work/life balance you are looking for. We also offer benefits – medical, dental, insurance – to make sure you are taken care of!

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Fully fluent in English;
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field (science would be ideal!) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience facilitating group learning sessions, workshops, or training with youth.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Willingness to work as a team player with the ability to adapt and quickly adjust to changes.
  • Reliable vehicle and a class 5 driver’s license because travel across the Island is part of our regular work.
  • Must be able to independently lift up to 50lbs.

OTHER ASSETS:
  • School-Age Child Care Provider certification or ability to get certified.
  • Experience with Makey Makey, micro:bits, Scratch, Dash, Canva, Clockify.
  • Bilingual French & English.

If you think playing with robots with 6 year olds, blasting off bottle rockets with 12 year olds, and creating stop motion animation videos with 15 year olds is a nightmare, then you probably won’t like this job. If you are thinking, “I can’t believe I would get paid for doing that!”, then you are going to have a BLAST!

Working with kids also means a clean criminal record check and First Aid certification is a must as is ensuring all public health guidelines are maintained.

We offer the ability to work independently - from our new location, from home and on the go - as well as in collaboration with other members of the STEAM Team, which is key. You definitely need to be comfortable and willing to try new things and continue your own learning as we like to stay on the cutting edge.

Diversity of perspective, including diversity of people, knowledge and cultures is important to us. We strive to provide a safe, highly inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone feels a sense of acceptance and belonging. Experience working with BIPOC and/or gender diverse students is also a plus for us!

ABOUT US:
